Bay Shore NY Cosmetic Dentist Educates Patients on Veneers
As a Bay Shore NY Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Antenucci has performed many different cosmetic dentistry procedures. One common procedure used to improve the appearance of teeth is dental veneers. Dental veneers can help to restore functionality in certain cases, can protect the teeth from further damage, and can improve the look of teeth.
There are two different typed of dental veneers: composite resin veneers and porcelain veneers. Both have their positives and negatives. The main difference between the two types of veneers is that composite resin veneers can be placed directly on the teeth or created at a dental laboratory, whereas porcelain veneers can only be fabricated indirectly.
Porcelain veneers typically require approximately three visits to the dentist—sometimes more, sometimes less. During the first visit, your dentist will examine your teeth. Together you and Dr. Antenucci will decide whether porcelain crowns or composite-crowns are the best for your situation.
Once the type of veneer is chosen, your dentist will determine the proper shape and size. At your second visit, the dentist will prepare your teeth to have the veneers placed on top. This sometimes requires removing some of the enamel of a tooth.
Once the teeth are prepared for the veneers, temporary veneers will be placed over the teeth to protect them while the final veneers are being created. The patient will then return to their dentist for the third visit once the finals veneers are completed and received by the dentist.
The third visit typically involves placing the final veneers. After this, the patients smile makeover is completed.
